Ce mardi (7 juillet 2026), à Ankara, dans le cadre du Forum des industries de défense organisé en marge du sommet de l’OTAN, 11 Alliés ont annoncé l’acquisition conjointe d’avions GlobalEye auprès de la société Saab, appelés à constituer le nouveau système aéroporté de détection et de contrôle (AWACS) de l’OTAN. Cette décision, qui conduit au remplacement d’une partie de la flotte – vieillissante – de Boeing E‑3 de l’Alliance, marque une étape importante dans la modernisation des capacités aéroportées de surveillance et de détection lointaine de l’OTAN.
Les avions GlobalEye permettront d’effectuer une surveillance avancée dans plusieurs milieux (aérien, terrestre et maritime) à partir d’une seule plateforme, ainsi que de mieux détecter et mieux suivre les menaces complexes, notamment les essaims de drones, les missiles balistiques et les missiles de croisière. Ils aideront ainsi l’OTAN à renforcer sa connaissance de la situation et à mener des opérations.
Ce projet illustre l’étroite coopération industrielle établie entre les deux rives de l’Atlantique, dont les industries européenne et canadienne sont le moteur et à laquelle les entreprises américaines contribuent significativement. En parallèle, huit Alliés ont lancé un nouveau projet de coopération en vue de déployer des capacités de détection lointaine aéroportée devant leur permettre de répondre à leurs propres besoins.
Le nouveau système aéroporté de détection et de contrôle fait partie des nombreux engagements capacitaires et industriels annoncés au sommet d’Ankara, lesquels témoignent des avancées concrètes réalisées dans le renforcement du dispositif de dissuasion et de défense de l’OTAN.
Cette initiative rassemble les 11 Alliés suivants : l’Allemagne, la Belgique, le Canada, le Danemark, la Lettonie, la Lituanie, le Luxembourg, la Norvège, les Pays-Bas, la Roumanie et la Suède.
