Piritta was appointed as Finland’s Permanent Representative to NATO in September 2023.
Before this, Piritta served as Political Director at the Ministry for Foreign Affairs of Finland for two years. From 2019 to 2021 Piritta served as the Director General for the Department for the Americas and Asia for two years.
Piritta has served as the Head of Mission of Finland to NATO from 2015 to 2019, managing Finland’s partnership with the defense alliance, and served as Finland’s representative in the EU’s Political and Security Committee from 2011 to 2015, working on EU’s common foreign, security and defense policies.
Piritta has also served as Deputy Head of Mission of Finland to NATO from 2005 to 2009 and gained experience at the Embassies of Finland in Washington, D.C. and Paris.
At the Ministry for Foreign Affairs in Helsinki, Piritta has i.a. served as the Deputy Director General of the Department of Communications and Culture as well as the Diplomatic Advisor to the Minister for Foreign Affairs.
Piritta joined the Ministry for Foreign Affairs of Finland in 1992. Her education includes the MSc in Political Science at the University of Helsinki, and the Brevet d’Administration Publique at the L’École Nationale d’Administration.
Piritta always clears her calendar for her book club and for the holidays she heads for language courses in warm destinations.
