Brigadier General Miguel Ángel Guil García

Brigadier General (BGen) Miguel Ángel Guil García assumed the role of Deputy Assistant Secretary General for the Cyber and Digital Transformation (CDT) Division in September 2025. He is responsible for ensuring the Alliance’s internal coordination of Capability Development and Plans, Readiness, and Operations. As the CDT’s senior military officer, this also includes translating the strategic guidance of this joint division into actionable outputs that supports NATO’s war fighters, and ensures synchronization of the division with the International Military Staff. Prior to this appointment, he served as Director of the NATO Digital Staff.
BGen Guil’s final assignment in the Spanish Army was as Commanding Officer of the Signals Brigade, from September 2018 to August 2022, during which he also served as Deputy Chief of Staff at the NATO Rapid Deployable Corps (NDRC-ESP). He played a key role in the NRDC-ESP’s successful certification as a NATO Warfighting Corps in 2021. Earlier, from December 2015 to August 2018, he was Director of the Spanish Army Signals and Engineers School, where he planned and led joint courses on Communication and Information Systems (CIS), Cyber Defence and Electronic Warfare.
Throughout his service, BGen Guil has provided CIS support to operations and contributed to the development of key operational capabilities, strengthening interoperability and inter-unit collaboration. Notably, in his role as Section Chief to various units within NRDC-ESP, he made significant contributions including to: G6 Operations Unit where he provided CIS and cyber support to operations and exercises in collaboration with the Spanish Signal Brigade, NATO Communication and Information Agency (NCIA) and NATO Communications and Information Systems Group (NCISG); the G5 Plans and Policy Unit, where he played a key role in the NRDC’s certification as a NATO Response Force; and the Rear Support Command Unit, where he was responsible for setting up initial rear support command capability within the NRDC-ESP.
From May 2004 to May 2008, he worked in the G3 Operations and Plans Unit of the Spanish Army Signal Brigade where he was instrumental in the planning and execution of the Brigade’s support for NRDC-ESP operations during the NATO Pakistan Earthquake Relief Operation (NRF 5). He has held positions as Commander of Signal Battalion, Company and Platoon type of units and has served three deployments: twice in Bosnia and Herzegovina with the European Union and NATO, and once in Lebanon with the United Nations.
BGen Guil holds a degree in Geography and History from Universidad Nacional de Educación a Distancia and is currently pursuing a PhD in Contemporary History. He is married with two children and enjoys reading and kayaking when time and weather permit.
