Born in Trois-Rivières, Québec, Colonel Martin Houle joined the Canadian Armed Forces in 1993 and graduated from the Royal Military College in Kingston in 1998. After completing his pilot training in 2000, he was posted to 430 Tactical Helicopter Squadron in Valcartier, Québec, to fly the CH 146 Griffon.

Throughout his career, Colonel Houle commanded 2 Wing Expeditionary Readiness Centre Squadron in Bagotville, 438 Tactical Helicopter Squadron in St-Hubert and the Canadian Joint Warfare Centre in Ottawa. He also had the opportunity to command the Air Task Forces during Exercise RIMPAC 14 and the tactical aviation detachment for Roto 0 in support the NATO mission in Iraq.

In a staff role, Colonel Houle served as J7 Mission Preparation at the Canadian Expeditionary Forces Command (CEFCOM), Executive Assistant to Deputy Commander CEFCOM, Organizational Practice at the Defence Renewal Team under Vice-Chief of Defences Staff (VCDS), Defence Renewal Contract Manager under VCDS, A7 at 1 Wing Headquarters and Chief of Staff at the 1st Canadian Division Headquarters in Kingston.

He is currently serving Chief Situation Centre at the NATO Headquarters in Brussels since 2024.

Colonel Houle deployed to Bosnia-Herzegovina, Afghanistan, and Iraq. He has over 2600 flight hours and is a graduate of the Canadian Forces Joint Command and Staff Course. He holds a Bachelor's degree in Mathematical and Computer Science and a Master's Degree in Defence Studies.
