Ce mardi (7 juillet 2026), le Danemark, la Finlande, l’Allemagne et la Norvège ont fait savoir qu’ils allaient acquérir jusqu’à cinq systèmes aériens sans pilote MQ-4C Triton (haute altitude, longue endurance) auprès de la société Northrop Grumman. Ces capacités du haut du spectre sont destinées à la Force de renseignement, surveillance et reconnaissance (ISR) de l’OTAN.
L’annonce a été faite dans le contexte du Forum OTAN des industries de défense organisé en marge du sommet d’Ankara (Türkiye). Les nouveaux appareils viendront étoffer la flotte de la capacité alliée de surveillance terrestre (AGS), qui opère depuis la base aérienne de Sigonella (Italie).
Les Triton sont des systèmes de pointe spécifiquement conçus pour assurer des missions de surveillance aérienne, capables de rester en vol pendant 24 heures à plus de 15 km d’altitude.
Grâce à ces appareils équipés de capteurs à longue portée, les Alliés seront mieux à même de détecter les menaces au plus tôt, de protéger leurs lignes de communication maritimes et de mener des opérations dans des environnements exigeants, par exemple dans l’Arctique et le Grand Nord.
Ces nouvelles capacités seront mises à disposition par un consortium industriel transatlantique. Northrop Grumman se chargera de la fabrication des Triton en eux-mêmes, tandis qu’Airbus Defence and Space et d’autres entreprises européennes s’occuperont du segment sol, des services de gestion des données, du système de commandement et contrôle, des infrastructures et du soutien des missions. Cette initiative fait fond sur le travail réalisé et les relations nouées ces dix dernières années de part et d’autre de l’Atlantique en vue de moderniser l’ISR de l’OTAN et de renforcer son aptitude à accomplir sa mission.
