On Wednesday (8 July 2026), NATO released its new Strategy for Industry-NATO Cooperation (SYNC) after it was endorsed by Allied Heads of State and Government at the NATO Summit in Ankara.
SYNC upgrades NATO’s framework for working with industry and reflects the growing role of industry in strengthening the Alliance’s deterrence and defence. It sets out three main objectives: enhancing communication and collaboration with industry; advancing innovation and interoperability; and strengthening, scaling and sustaining defence production across the Alliance.
The strategy aims to improve industry’s access to NATO; provide greater visibility of Allied capability needs; and simplify engagement with NATO for companies of all sizes, including small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) and non-traditional suppliers. A detailed implementation plan will now be developed in close cooperation with industry.
