On Wednesday (23 September 2026) NATO launched its first ever NATO Executive Resilience course, senior civilian and military leaders from across the Alliance will develop their skills to build a stronger preparedness to face of today’s complex challenges. The course will help Allies prepare for crises, keep essential services running and support NATO’s defence when it matters most.

The course is organised by NATO’s Defence Policy and Planning Division and the Netherlands Institute of International Relations Clingendael. Participants will get the opportunity to engage on a range of different subjects, from emerging threats and critical infrastructure, to civil-military cooperation, essential services and societal resilience.

NATO Deputy Secretary General Radmila Shekerinska welcomed the participants to the course, stressing that “resilience is critical to our peace and stability. As part of this course, you will learn how to integrate civilian capabilities that are essential to our deterrence and defence.”

Whole-of-society planning is at the heart of resilience, for this reason professionals from government, military, industry, critical infrastructure, academia and civil society are brought together to share experiences, exchange best practices and learn how to cooperate effectively during a crisis.
