On Wednesday (15 July 2026), NATO Deputy Secretary General Radmila Shekerinska participated in a meeting of the European Parliament's Committee on Security and Defence. She briefed on the outcomes of the NATO Summit in Ankara and answered questions from Members of the European Parliament.
Ms Shekerinska described the Ankara Summit as transformational and highlighted the progress being made by Allies on investing 5% of GDP in defence by 2035. She noted that just one year into this 10-year project, European Allies and Canada are already investing around 4 percent of their GDPs in defence and security. The Deputy Secretary General welcomed over 50billion dollars worth of new procurements secured at the NATO Summit Defence Industry Forum as proof that Allies are turning cash into capabilities. She also highlighted that at the Summit, Allies pledged 70 billion euros in military equipment, assistance and training for Ukraine this year, and at least that in 2027.
