The NATO Secretary General’s Special Representative for the Southern Neighbourhood, Javier Colomina, paid his first official visit to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, from 10 to 11 February 2026.

During the visit, he met the Chief of Staff of the Saudi Armed Forces, General Fayyad Hamed Al-Ruwaili. Both underscored the importance of regional stability and exchanged views on topics of mutual interest, including opportunities for further deepening engagement.

Acknowledging Saudi Arabia’s role as a key regional power, the Special Representative also discussed regional developments with Deputy Foreign Minister Waleed Bin Abdulkarim al-Khereiji, as well as with the Deputy Head of Intelligence Affairs, Dr. Sayyah Al-Bayali.

Furthermore, Mr. Colomina paid a visit to the Headquarters of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) in Riyadh and shared perspectives with the GCC’s Assistant Secretary General for Political Affairs and Negotiations, Dr. Abdulaziz Aluweisheg, including on further strengthening NATO-GCC relations. Upon invitation from the Saudi authorities, he also visited the World Defense Show exhibition.
