On Wednesday (5 February 2025), NATO Deputy Secretary General Radmila Shekerinska welcomed the new Chairperson-in-Office of the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE) and Foreign Minister of Finland, Elina Valtonen, for a meeting with the North Atlantic Council.

Deputy Secretary General Shekerinska commended Foreign Minister Valtonen’s decision to make Kyiv her first visit as OSCE Chairperson-in-Office, underscoring Finland’s commitment to keeping Ukraine a top priority during its chairpersonship, which it assumed from Malta on 1 January. Both organisations play a key role in finding a diplomatic solution for the war in Ukraine, she added.

NATO and the OSCE work closely across a range of areas, including conflict prevention and resolution, arms control, counter-terrorism, promoting the Women, Peace and Security agenda, and addressing evolving security challenges.

Ahead of the North Atlantic Council meeting, Ms Valtonen and the Deputy Secretary General met for a bilateral discussion.
