NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg thanked Belgian Air Force personnel for their service and for their contribution to NATO operations during a visit to the Kleine Brogel airbase in eastern Belgium on Monday (19 January 2015).
At the airbase, the Secretary General toured the operations centre and hangars, where he met flight crews, security and support personnel, and was briefed on Belgium’s air force capabilities and wide-ranging contributions to NATO operations. He was accompanied by the Belgian Defence Minister Steven Vandeput.
The Secretary General commended the personnel for their professionalism and dedication to defending the Alliance. He noted that Belgium played an important role in NATO missions in Afghanistan and Libya, and that since January 2015, Belgian jets have been patrolling the skies over the Baltics as part of NATO’s air policing mission. Mr Stoltenberg also met with United States Air Force personnel working at the base, stressing the importance of solid trans-Atlantic cooperation.
