The NATO Russia Council (NRC) met for the first time in a political advisory format in Rome on 14 and 15 June for an informal, off-the-record exchange of views on how to make the NRC a more substance-based forum.

During three sessions, officials from NRC member countries addressed a wide array of issues related to building transparency and confidence, the role of the NRC in European security, and the role of the NRC in tackling 21st century challenges.

Policy advisors and officials concluded that the meeting had been very useful in that it had provided an informal forum for the policy makers involved to discuss openly and constructively all pressing current NRC issues.
