On 10 December 2008 the NATO Public Diplomacy Division organised a visit to NATO Headquarters of High Level Opinion Leaders from the Gulf Region.

Topics discussed included NATO’s transformation and outreach to the Mediterranean and the broader Middle East region, NATO’s relations with Russia, NATO’s Public Diplomacy, NATO’s military cooperation under the Istanbul Cooperation Initiative (ICI), the role of Civil Emergency Planning for responses to man made and natural disasters, and defence investment cooperation under the Istanbul Cooperation Initiative (ICI).

During the visit, the group met with NATO International Staff and International Military Staff officials, including with the NATO Deputy Secretary General, H.E. Ambassador Claudio Bisogniero and Mr. Jean-François Bureau, NATO Assistant Secretary General for Public Diplomacy.
