On 28 June 2006, the North Atlantic Council approved the establishment of a new Committee on Science for Peace and Security (SPS).
This action results from an extensive restructuring initiative undertaken jointly by the NATO Science Committee and the Committee on the Challenges of Modern Society (CCMS).
The new SPS Committee replaces these two committees, and will be the primary NATO body accountable for a programme to enhance cooperation with all NATO partnerships based on security-related civil science and innovation.
