On 15-16 November, the NATO Consultation, Command and Control (C3) Board held its bi-annual meeting. A Board meeting with Partner countries was also held on the afternoon of 15 November 2000. There were 18 Partner nations represented. Items on the agendas included the following subjects:

continued support for the NATO Satellite Communications (SATCOM) project, which aims to replace the present satellite system in the mid-term;

assessment of progress made regarding NATO's Defence Capabilities Initiative;

discussions on Radio Frequency Management, which touches on the growing concern of the military regarding the priority being given to commercial frequencies over their access to radio spectrum required for military operations. The next international Radio Frequency Management Conference is to be held in 2003;

and cooperation activities organised with partner countries such as peacekeeping in the Balkans, training, interoperability testing and CIS planning for Crisis Response Operations (CRO).

The essential role of NATO's Consultation, Command and Control Board is to issue policies and monitor developments in the area of communications and information systems to ensure that NATO, as well as partner countries, are able to work together during crisis.
