The Military Committee - NATO's highest military authority - met in Athens on 11 September and Istanbul on 15 September for one of its three meetings held at Chiefs of Staff level each year. The Chiefs of Defence Staff from the 19 member countries and the commanders of NATO's two strategic commands, SACLANT and SACEUR attended the sessions chaired by Admiral Guido Venturoni. Discussions centred around the situation in the Balkans and the review of NATO's Force Structure, which aims to adapt the structure of forces to the Alliance's new command structure.
