We chose four of our favourite photos and put them to a vote on social media, asking the public to choose NATO’s photo of the year for 2025. Scroll to the end to see the winner!
A Norwegian battalion recreates a historical communication method, dating back to the 960s. By building cairns on three different mountain peaks in the Bardufoss region of Norway, the battalion reconstructed an early warning system used in ancient times to alert allies to approaching enemy ships along the coast of Norway. Zak, a very good boy from the Special Operations Regiment (K9 SOR team), is kitted out during the annual K9 days in Belgium, where different military and police units present the skills of their working dogs. During this exercise, a Belgian paracommando came to shore by boat and released Zak. Zak detected an explosive hidden on the beach and alerted his handler to the explosive’s location.
