So, dear friends, I think we are ready start so if you all can find your seats we can start this meeting. So please be seated.
Good afternoon,
Welcome to this meeting on our Resolute Support Mission in Afghanistan.
It has been more than two years since the Afghan security forces took full responsibility for their country’s security. Despite the challenges presented by a brutal enemy, they have performed with great professionalism, bravely defending their country and the Afghan people. Our Resolute Support mission is an essential contribution to the fight against terrorism. Around 13,000 troops from NATO and partner countries are in Afghanistan, training the Afghan forces, and helping to ensure Afghanistan never again becomes a safe haven for international terrorists. The situation there remains challenging but we are making important progress. Each day the Afghan forces become more effective.
Today, we will discuss the path forward in Afghanistan, including our future troop levels.
That concludes the public part of this meeting.
I thank the media for joining us at this opening. So thank you so much.
