Transformation, we have approached transformations through all this extensive work with the chiefs of defence during these two days. That was fascinating.
You know that transformation is about adapting our Alliance to the challenges of tomorrow; but taking into account as well the challenges of today. So this is a very dynamic process.
The main strands of work that we worked on with the CHODS, the Commander and the Chairman, was first and foremost how we adapt our strategic thinking, strategic military affairs, strategic thinking for the future. So we have an overall process to adapt to that and that was fascinating to exchange on that.
Secondly, how we assess and how we develop the capabilities which are really needed for the future. And there is nothing new but we must emphasize that situation awareness (joint intelligence, surveillance, reconnaissance) is the key to know and to inform and to prepare operations.
We discussed a little bit as well of multinational solutions to these challenges. And it's more than ever important that we work together. And we have some good news in the process of very effective and very promising solutions, multinational solutions.
Obviously, we stress very much and that was already referred to on training and exercises. And I must stress that, already, the Alliance has a wide spectrum of exercises to answer to this strategic concept, would it be for collective defence, Article 5; would it be for crisis management; would it be for, as well, working with the Partners.
This is very important that we enforce the interoperability with partners; because they take their full place in current operations, in our exercises. So that was really a fruitful discussions that we had. And transformation, I can stress, is moving forward and is there to answer to those many questions that the crisis of today ask to us; and the crisis of tomorrow.
