Today, the North Atlantic Council welcomed the successful outcome of the Conference on Afghanistan held in London on 28 January. The conference demonstrated the strong determination by both the Afghan authorities and the international community to bring stability to Afghanistan.
The NAC welcomed the Government of Afghanistan's intention to take increasing responsibility throughout the country, including on security matters, where conditions permit. In this regard, progress made in the development of the Afghan National Security Forces is encouraging and Allies are committed to continue to support these efforts. The NAC underlined the importance of a stronger, more coordinated civilian effort in Afghanistan, which NATO will support.
The NAC commended the Afghan Government for its initiatives to promote national peace and reintegration, to coordinate more effectively across key ministries, to better focus aid requirements, and to take proactive measures against corruption.
The Conference clearly demonstrated that the international community is united in its commitment to the Afghan people. NATO is ready to continue to play its full part.
