Today I want to join together with the United Nations and many others around the world in recognising the annual International Day of Peace.
This call for a full day cease-fire and nonviolence by all combatants across the globe is particularly significant for me as the NATO Secretary General. Young men and women of the Alliance and its partner nations are today deployed in missions which range from the mountains of Afghanistan to the streets of Kosovo. Their mission is to support the goal of peace and security for people who have suffered so much from violence and war.
On this special day, I take up Secretary General Annan's call to continue the struggle for global peace together with the United Nations and leaders around the world.
