This is an historic event for Afghanistan and a crucial step towards meeting a goal shared by the entire international community: to help Afghanistan become a democratic, peaceful and prospering country. The enthusiasm with which the Afghan people went to the polls is an unmistakable sign that they are ready to take forward the democratic process.
