Today's events are dedicated to celebrating ten years of Partnership and Cooperation.
When we look back to the beginnings of our Partnership, few would have thought then that we would be meeting at NATO a decade later to commemorate such a truly remarkable record of achievement - the establishment of a pattern of far-reaching, practical cooperation in almost every field of security policy. Over that period, we have established wide-ranging partnership programmes between the 19 NATO and 27 partner countries.
This exhibit is designated to provide a flavour of what we have achieved over the past ten years.
Today, the Euro-Atlantic Partnership Council is an important forum for political consultations promoting better understanding and greater trust among the countries of the Euro-Atlantic area. It has also established its value as an effective cooperative framework for crisis management and peace-support operations.
On 12 September, the EAPC provided a demonstration of the shared values and political solidarity that the process of partnership and cooperation has done so much to nurture. Its powerful statement of condemnation of the brutal and senseless acts perpetrated against the United States is reproduced in full at the far right of this exhibit. It says it all: "this attempt to compromise our common values will not succeed".
This Exhibit highlights the many facets of our Partnership: from conferences and seminars to CFE Treaty verification, humanitarian mine action, civil emergency planning, and scientific and environmental cooperation. These are just a few examples of the scope and quality of our activities today.
But perhaps the most visible success of our Partnership has been the ability it has given us to mount vital peace-support operations together. A central part of this exhibit therefore pays tribute to the ground-breaking work of IFOR, SFOR and KFOR.
Je suis convaincu que le CPEA poursuivra son chemin avec autant de vigueur à l'avenir. Aussi, c'est avec beaucoup de plaisir que je déclare ouverte cette exposition
