I wish to extend my warmest congratulations to President-elect Bush on his election as the 43rd President of the United States. I welcome the chance to work together with him and his new Administration on the many political and security challenges facing the North Atlantic Alliance.

Since NATO's founding 51 years ago, the United States has been unswerving in its support and commitment to NATO as the cornerstone of peace and security for the Trans-Atlantic community.

During the election campaign, President-elect Bush made clear his strong, personal commitment to NATO. I know that, as President, he will apply his energy and vitality to helping NATO meet the challenges ahead.

I wish him and Vice President-elect Cheney the very best as they assume the leadership of the United States of America.
