I take pleasure in announcing that the winner of the Manfred Wörner Fellowship for the year 2000 is Dr Alexander G. YUSHCHENKO, of the Kharkov State Polytechnic University, Ukraine. Dr Yushchenko has undertaken to work on a project titled: "Intellectual Modelling of Information Management of Political Mentality Dynamics of Social Ukrainian Strata Towards NATO".
Dr Yushchenko is Associate Professor in one of the most prestigious universities in Ukraine, established in 1885. He intends to develop his project by involving other departments of the university, including the Information Systems Department, and experts in mass media studies. The final aim of his project will be to develop positive attitudes in the Ukrainian society towards the European integration process, including NATO. To achieve this, Dr Yushchenko will make some recommendations intended for political leaders and members of the influential mass media. He will use the most advanced sociological methods to analyze the political mentality of the social strata in Ukraine.
