NATO’s highest Military Authority, the Military Committee, will meet at the Chiefs of Defence level from 18 to 19 September 2026, in Copenhagen, Denmark. The Chair of the Military Committee (CMC), Admiral Giuseppe Cavo Dragone, will preside the meeting, attended as well by the Supreme Allied Commander for Europe (SACEUR), General Alexus G. Grynkewich, and the Supreme Allied Commander for Transformation (SACT), Admiral Pierre Vandier.
Together, NATO’s senior military leadership will reflect on the follow up from the NATO Summit in Ankara, in particular by addressing the further strengthening of the Alliance’s collective deterrence and defence, innovation and technology, support for Ukraine. The Opening Remarks by CMC will be livestreamed. The CMC and the Danish Chief of Defence will hold a press conference at the conclusion of the meeting.
The Military Committee meets in Chiefs of Defence Session (MC/CS) twice a year (January and May) at NATO Headquarters in Brussels. Additionally, once a year, one of the Allies hosts a Military Committee Conference (MCC), once again gathering all the 32 Chiefs. Other extraordinary meetings can be called during the year, if deemed necessary. The Military Committee convenes to discuss NATO operations, missions, exercises, capabilities and other relevant subjects. Its main role is to provide the North Atlantic Council with unfettered, consensus-based military advice on how the Alliance can best address global security challenges. On a day-to-day basis, its work is carried out by Allies’ Military Representatives, at the NATO Headquarters in Brussels.
