Инвестиции в оборону позволяют государствам-членам выполнять свои национальные и коллективные обязательства в соответствии со статьей 3 Вашингтонского договора. Согласно последним данным, в 2025 году европейские союзники по НАТО и Канада увеличили основные расходы на оборону почти на 20 % по сравнению с 2024 годом. Ожидается, что в 2026 году уже пять стран-членов достигнут целевого показателя в 3,5 % ВВП по основным оборонным потребностям, а 17 союзников — целевого показателя в 1,5 % ВВП по инвестициям, связанным с обороной и безопасностью, задолго до установленного в Гааге конечного срока — 2035 года.
