NATO’s Deputy Assistant Secretary General for Partnerships visits Moldova

On 17 and 18 June 2026, Ambassador Kevin Hamilton, Deputy Assistant Secretary General for Partnerships, paid an official visit to the Republic of Moldova. He shared views on Moldova’s partnership with NATO and on topics of mutual interest for the Alliance and Moldova with Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister, Mihai Popșoi; National Security Advisor to the President of the Republic of Moldova, Stanislav Secrieru; and Secretary of State at the Ministry of Defence, Ghenadie Cojocaru.
Ambassador Hamilton hailed Moldova’s readiness to enhance close cooperation with NATO and expressed appreciation for the country’s contribution to international peace and stability, including through its long-standing deployment of personnel to the NATO-led KFOR peacekeeping mission in Kosovo. The Deputy Assistant Secretary General also highlighted NATO’s continued support to strengthening Moldova’s defence capacity, resilience, and ability to protect its cyber infrastructure and counter malign interference, through a dedicated Defence Capacity Building programme and mechanisms. He also discussed Moldova’s efforts to modernise its defence sector, through cooperation with international partners.
“Moldova is a valued partner contributing to Euro-Atlantic security,” said Ambassador Hamilton. “The Moldovan people and Moldovan institutions have shown great resilience and effectiveness in dealing with regional security challenges, including those created as a result of Russia's war against Ukraine. Our cooperation, and Moldova’s commitment to our mutually beneficial relationship demonstrates the added value of our long-standing partnership,” he pointed out.
