On Thursday (23 April 2026), at the Egmont Palace in Brussels, NATO Deputy Secretary General Radmila Shekerinska, together with the Chair of the Political and Security Committee of the European Union, Lene Mandel Vensild, led an informal meeting of the North Atlantic Council and the Political and Security Committee, with a focus on Ukraine.

The Deputy Secretary General called on participants to continue providing Ukraine with predictable, coordinated, and sustained support over the long-term. NATO Allies – 23 of which are also EU Member States – already account for the overwhelming majority of military, financial, and humanitarian aid to Ukraine. Ensuring that Ukraine has what it needs to defend itself today and deter future aggression is essential, and NATO-EU cooperation and coordination in the context of support to Ukraine will continue to be key.

NATO supports Ukraine through the Prioritised Ukraine Requirements List (PURL) initiative, the NATO Security Assistance and Training for Ukraine (NSATU), the Joint Analysis, Training and Education Centre (JATEC), the Comprehensive Assistance Package (CAP), the NATO Representation to Ukraine (NRU), and a number of other mechanisms including the NATO-Ukraine Council. In addition to EU financial support to Ukraine, the EU Military Assistance Mission has trained 90,000 Ukrainian soldiers, while the EU Advisory Mission supports Ukraine in civilian security sector reform.

This was the first meeting of the year between the North Atlantic Council and the Political and Security Committee. The next joint meetings are scheduled for September and December 2026.
