The NATO Youth Advisory Board (YAB) formally concluded their mandate with a visit to NATO Headquarters in Brussels on 15-16 December 2025. The visit marked the culmination of a year-long engagement, during which the young advisors played a pivotal role in shaping the Alliance’s outreach to future generations.
The highlight of the two-day visit was an Award Ceremony hosted by NATO Deputy Secretary General Radmila Shekerinska. The Deputy Secretary General personally thanked the YAB members for their dedication and valuable input, presenting them with certificates to honour the conclusion of their mandate.
Throughout their term, the NATO Youth Advisory Board made significant contributions to the Alliance's public engagement efforts. They were instrumental in developing recommendations that will guide NATO’s youth engagement strategy moving forward. Their work also included helping to contribute to NATO's public diplomacy initiatives and conducting individual outreach in their respective countries. As part of their concluding visit, the YAB members engaged in a series of meetings. They met Alliance representatives from across NATO HQ, and representatives of Allied nations to discuss their recommendations. They also attended briefings focused on key NATO priorities, gaining deeper insight into the Alliance's current priorities and challenges.
The NATO Youth Advisory Board was established as a core objective of the NATO Public Diplomacy Division (PDD). The programme aimed to streamline youth engagement and create an adaptive communication channel between NATO and young people globally. It was designed to gather input from a diverse array of youth perspectives, drawing participants from both NATO member and partner countries. Looking ahead, the former YAB members are committed to formalising their recommendations and maintaining an active role in engaging with NATO and advocating for its mission.
