On 23-24 October 2025, NATO’s Assistant Secretary General for Political Affairs and Security Policy, Ambassador Boris Ruge, travelled to Switzerland to conduct high-level talks. The trip was his first visit to the NATO Liaison Office (NLO) to the international organisations in Geneva since its opening in August 2024.

In Geneva Ambassador Ruge co-chaired the 18th round of annual staff talks between NATO and the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC).

During his visit, he met with Allied Permanent Representatives in Geneva, briefing them on NATO’s priorities, exchanging views on arms control, disarmament, and non-proliferation, emerging technologies as well as issues of international humanitarian law.

Ambassador Ruge also met with the Permanent Representatives of NATO's Indo-Pacific partners.

In addition, he delivered a key-note address at an event hosted by the Geneva Centre for Security Policy (GCSP) on “NATO implementing The Hague Summit 2025 decisions”.

In all of Ambassador Ruge’s meetings, his interlocutors welcomed the opening of the NLO, noting its usefulness on advancing political dialogue between NATO and international organisations based in Geneva.
