Brussels, NATO HQ, 13 October – Lieutenant General Winston P. Brooks began his tenure as the newest Deputy Chair of the NATO Military Committee (DCMC).
Lieutenant General Brooks has an extensive military career spanning three decades, starting when he first received his commission in 1993. During his service he has been deployed to Operation Joint Endeavor, Operation Iraqi Freedom, Operation Enduring Freedom, and Operation Atlantic Resolve. During this last assignment, he served as the Deputy Commanding General - Maneuver in the 1st Infantry Division at Fort Riley, Kansas and in support of the Operation in Poland.
The DCMC’s previous experience with NATO includes his service as the Deputy Chief of Staff for Operations at the Allied Rapid Reaction Corps in Gloucester, United Kingdom. Just recently, and prior to his assignment as DCMC, Lieutenant General Brooks served as the Commanding General for the Fires Center of Excellence and the Senior Installation Commander at Fort Sill, Oklahoma.
The DCMC position is responsible for assisting the Chair of the Military Committee (CMC) in the execution of their duties and to take over the CMC's duties in their absence. With the position comes the specific responsibility for the co-ordination of Nuclear, Biological and Chemical matters within the International Military Staff.
Additionally, the DCMC is the Military Advisor to the Deputy Secretary General in their capacity as the Chair of the High-Level Task Force, and Co-Chair of the Senior NATO Logisticians Committee as well as the NATO Committee on Standardization.
