Deputy Secretary General affirms strong NATO support for Ukraine in Bled, Slovenia

On Monday (1 September 2025), NATO Deputy Secretary General Radmila Shekerinska participated in the Bled Strategic Forum, Slovenia. On the panel “Ukraine: Long Road to Peace,” she affirmed NATO’s continued support for Ukraine, as Allies work to ensure Ukraine can defend itself today, and deter future aggression.
Ms Shekerinska outlined Allies’ essential military support for Ukraine, including, so far, over two billion dollars of support through NATO’s new Prioritised Ukraine Requirements List (PURL): a new initiative that will get critical US supplies and equipment to Ukraine. NATO also works with and supports Ukraine through measures such as the NATO-Ukraine Council (NUC), the NATO Representation to Ukraine (NRU), NATO Security Assistance and Training for Ukraine (NSATU), and the NATO-Ukraine Joint Analysis, Training and Education Centre (JATEC).
The Deputy Secretary General commended President Trump’s efforts to end the war, saying Allies must continue their support “so that Ukraine can really negotiate from a position of strength.” She emphasised that security guarantees and strong defence are critical to ensuring that Russian never attacks Ukraine again. Ms Shekerinska concluded that with Ukraine’s courage, combined with support from Allies, Ukraine will prevail and peace is possible.
