Hua Hin, Thailand - From 26 to 28 August 2025, Admiral Giuseppe Cavo Dragone, Chair of the NATO Military Committee, attended the annual Indo-Pacific Chiefs of Defence Conference co-hosted by Admiral Samuel Paparo, Commander of the United States Indo-Pacific Command, and by General Noonpackdee Songwit, Chief of Defence Forces of the Royal Thai Armed Forces. This year’s edition took place in Hua Hin, Thailand, with the theme “Peace through Strength - Ensuring Security and Prosperity in the lndo-Pacific”.

During the Conference, senior military leaders touched upon the sub-regional and unique security perspectives of Northeast, South, Southeast Asia, and Oceania, and the non-traditional threat landscape, including the challenges and solutions in the field of emerging technologies. The conference reflected the interconnected nature of global security as well as the commitment to strengthen relationships with Indo-Pacific partners, to tackle cross-regional challenges, while protecting shared security interests.

“In an unpredictable, yet interconnected global security environment, Indo-Pacific likeminded stakeholders play a key role to preserve international stability. Today, and for our future generations”, said Admiral Cavo Dragone. “This is why it is more important than ever to foster dialogue with these Partners, learning from our respective strengths and interests, in a wide range of fields, inter alia industry cooperation, maritime- and cyber security”, CMC added.

During the meeting, discussions focused also on how the Euro-Atlantic and Indo-Pacific regions are increasingly interconnected, starting from issues like China and North Korea’s support of Russian’s war of aggression against Ukraine, and their growing strategic partnership with Moscow. 

CMC concluded that “today, security is more global than ever, and the challenges we face are no longer bound by geography, so they need to be addressed based on shared common values grounded in the rules-based international order”.
