On Wednesday 6 December 2023 around one hundred experts from across the Alliance and partner countries gathered at NATO Headquarters in Brussels to discuss national and NATO perspectives on seabed warfare, including how current and future Allied maritime capabilities can effectively protect against the threats to critical undersea infrastructure.

During the meeting, Lieutenant General Hans-Werner Wiermann, Head of the Critical Undersea Infrastructure Coordination Cell at NATO, highlighted the importance of developing a capability to identify suspicious behaviour in the vicinity of our critical undersea infrastructure in real time.

Participants also reviewed progress on NATO’s Digital Ocean, an initiative to enhance maritime situational awareness key to the protection of critical undersea infrastructure.
