NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg welcomed Prime Minister Chris Hipkins of New Zealand to the Vilnius Summit on Tuesday (11 July 2023).

Calling New Zealand a “highly valued partner of NATO,” Mr Stoltenberg underlined that strengthening cooperation is even more important as “security is not regional, security is global”. Pointing to the global ramifications of Russia’s war in Ukraine, he thanked Prime Minister Hipkins for New Zealand’s support to Ukraine, as well as to NATO missions and activities over the years. The Secretary General also welcomed work to further deepen cooperation in areas like climate change, cyber defence, and new technologies.
