NATO and the Republic of Korea continue to deepen their long-standing partnership, by strengthening their cooperation in the domain of air safety.

Representatives from the South Korean Defence Acquisition Programme Administration took part in a meeting of the NATO Aviation Committee on Wednesday (21 June 2023), at NATO Headquarters. At the meeting, a recognition process was launched by NATO of the Military Airworthiness Authority of Korea. This achievement represents an important step forward in the implementation of NATO’s Airworthiness Policy, which will contribute to greater interoperability, and to boosting air safety cooperation across the Euro-Atlantic and Indo-Pacific regions.

NATO’s new Strategic Concept highlights that the Indo-Pacific region is important for NATO, given that developments in that region can directly affect Euro-Atlantic security.

The NATO Aviation Committee’s mandate is to support the Alliance’s efforts to continue adapting to the rapidly evolving security environment in an increasingly complex and networked airspace.
