On 5 and 6 June 2023, the National Defence Institute (NDI – Institut de Defense Nationale) of Tunisia visited NATO Headquarters in Brussels. The NDI, under the Tunisian Ministry of Defence, brings together senior civilian and military officials from various Tunisian Ministries for an annual programme of security and defence courses.
The delegation, hosted by NATO, comprised the 53 members of this year’s cohort. Over the course of two days, NDI representatives received a series of briefings by members of NATO’s International Staff and International Military Staff, addressing topics such as NATO-Tunisia cooperation, NATO’s approach to its southern and eastern flanks, counterterrorism, cyber defence, Women, Peace and Security, climate change, and food security—the NDI’s thematic focus for this year. Participants engaged in open discussions with NATO officials and representatives of Allied countries about the regional security situation and shared their perspectives on a wide range of issues which, enhanced mutual understanding. The visit demonstrated importance of the partnership between NATO and Tunisia.
