NATO Deputy Secretary General Mircea Geoană addressed the Spring Conference of the NATO Parliamentary Assembly in Luxembourg on Monday (22 May 2023). The Deputy Secretary General thanked Luxembourg for its contributions to NATO, particularly in space surveillance and satellite capabilities, and for providing strong support for Ukraine.

The Deputy Secretary General reiterated NATO's commitment to strengthening deterrence and defence in a more dangerous and competitive world. “NATO is up to the challenge,” he said, adding that, “we will train and exercise more together, place more forces on higher readiness and strengthen our command and control structures.”

Mr. Geoană underscored that security is the foundation for prosperity, stressing that, “without security, peace and prosperity, there is no freedom. This is the time to invest in our values, in NATO, and of course, in many other ways. So I count on your support.”

274 parliamentarians from the 31 NATO Allies, as well as around 100 representatives from nearly 25 partner countries and parliamentary entities, are taking part in this year’s spring conference of the NATO Parliamentary Assembly.
