NATO Deputy Secretary General Mircea Geoană addressed the Milken Institute’s Global Conference in Beverly Hills, California, on Wednesday (3 May 2023), highlighting the need for broad engagement across the public, private, and academic sectors to address global security issues. Mr. Geoană described Russia’s war in Ukraine as both a tragedy for Ukrainians and a threat to the world, reaffirming Allies’ dedication to supporting Ukraine’s self-defence with financial, humanitarian, and military means.

The Deputy Secretary General also underscored the need to reduce reliance on authoritarian regimes, and urged collaboration across society to navigate the complex challenges posed by emerging technologies, stressing the importance of responsible development and regulation.

The Global Conference is an annual event organized by the Milken Institute, a non-profit, non-partisan think tank. The conference brings together leaders from various sectors to address pressing global challenges.
