NATO Deputy Secretary General Mircea Geoană discussed NATO’s response to global security challenges at the London Business School’s Wheeler Institute for Business and Development today (31 March 2023). He said that adaptation is in NATO’s genes and that in a more dangerous world, we need to invest more in our defence and security.

Mr Geoană was in London for a two-day visit, where he opened the first regional headquarters of NATO’s new innovation initiative with UK Minister for Defence Procurement Alex Chalk on Thursday (30 March 2023). The European regional office of NATO’s Defence Innovation Accelerator for the North Atlantic (DIANA) will be hosted by the United Kingdom at Imperial College’s Innovation Hub and supported by a regional hub in Tallinn, Estonia.

On Thursday, the Deputy Secretary General gave the annual Vincent Briscoe lecture at Imperial College’s Institute for Security Science and Technology, where he addressed great power competition in an era of disruptive technologies. Mr Geoană also met with Parliamentary Under Secretary of State at the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office, Leo Doherty, where he thanked the UK for their strong contributions to NATO and significant support for Ukraine.
