NATO Deputy Secretary General Mircea Geoană addressed students of the European Diplomatic Academy on Thursday (19 January 2023), stressing the importance of democratic nations and institutions standing together in a more dangerous world. He also highlighted the unique role of the younger generation in co-designing innovative solutions for the world of today and tomorrow.
Referring to ongoing geopolitical and strategic shifts, he emphasised the danger of economic dependence on authoritarian nations, and reiterated the importance of Allies investing more in defence. He also underlined the importance of the transatlantic bond and of continuing to invest in partnerships.
The Deputy Secretary General further welcomed the recently signed third NATO-EU Joint Declaration, stressing the increased importance of the Alliance’s strategic partnership with the EU.
