NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg outlined the key decisions Allied Defence Ministers will take at their meetings in Brussels today and tomorrow (12-13 October 2022), calling this ''a pivotal moment for our security''.

Russia’s partial mobilisation, illegal annexation attempts, indiscriminate attacks on Ukrainian cities, and nuclear threats represent “the most serious escalation of the war since the invasion in February,” Mr Stoltenberg said. Ministers will discuss how to step up and sustain support for Ukraine, and continue to strengthen Allied defences, including by replenishing stockpiles and protecting critical infrastructure. Defence Minister Oleksii Reznikov will take part in a meeting of the US-led Contact Group and later update ministers on Ukraine’s urgent needs going into the winter. Ministers will also discuss NATO’s mission and operations from Kosovo to Iraq, and the Secretary General will chair a meeting of the Nuclear Planning Group.
