In recent weeks, the Republic of Moldova received more than 6 tonnes of personal protective equipment - including gloves and isolation gowns – as well as 3 ventilators and 10,000 COVID-19 antigen tests from NATO’s Pandemic Response Stockpile.

NATO’s Euro-Atlantic Disaster Response Coordination Centre, NATO’s Support and Procurement Agency, and Romania coordinated this donation, following a request by Moldova for assistance in response to the COVID-19 pandemic. The assistance will benefit Moldova’s Ministry of Health, including in support for Ukrainian refugees in Moldova.

Romania supported the transportation of the personal protective equipment to Moldova. This donation complements NATO’s EADRCC support delivered to Moldova during 2021, which included 20 ventilators, 100,000 FFP2 masks, and 25,000 disposable coveralls. Further medical equipment - including electrocardiographs, vacuum aspirators, and other supplies – will be delivered shortly.

The Pandemic Response Trust Fund maintains a stockpile of medical equipment and supplies, and 11 countries have benefitted from it throughout the COVID-19 pandemic. The Pandemic Response Trust Fund is also delivering critical humanitarian assistance to Ukraine and neighbouring countries to support the influx of Ukrainian refugees. This assistance contributes to increase the level of preparedness and resilience of national health systems, through the delivery of modern medical equipment, supplies, and pharmaceutical products.
