NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg wrapped up a three-day visit focused on Canada’s High North on Friday (26 August 2022) with a visit to the Royal Canadian Air Force base in Cold Lake.

Speaking at a press conference alongside Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, Mr Stoltenberg underlined the High North’s strategic importance for Euro-Atlantic security, especially in the context of a rapidly warming climate and rising geostrategic competition. He further thanked Canada for its key contributions to the Alliance, including NORAD modernisation and leading NATO’s multinational forces in Latvia. On Thursday, he visited a North Warning System radar site and the Canadian High Arctic Research Station in Cambridge Bay, Nunavut.
