Today (7 February 2022) NATO Deputy Secretary General Mircea Geoană and Norwegian Defence Minister Odd Roger Enoksen gave their views on the situation in and around Ukraine and NATO’s future adaptation.

The Deputy Secretary General reiterated that NATO will never compromise on the core principles that have ensured our security and prosperity for more than seventy years. Yet despite this, there are many areas where we can engage in positive dialogue with Russia, including risk reduction, transparency and arms control.

He also spoke about the development of NATO’s next Strategic Concept, a key document that will help guide the Alliance in the years ahead. It will reaffirm our values, our purpose and our tasks, and provide a collective assessment of the current security environment.

Today’s conference, ‘NATO at a Crossroads: Views from NATO HQ and Norway’ in Oslo, was organised by the Norwegian Atlantic Committee.
