NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg on Thursday (9 December 2021) welcomed the new German Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock to NATO headquarters in Brussels.

Your visit today, just one day after taking office, is a clear sign of Germany’s leading role in transatlantic security”, Mr Stoltenberg said in a press statement.

Standing next to the German Foreign Minister, the Secretary General thanked Germany for its vital contributions to the Alliance, including air and maritime deployments, Bundeswehr deployments in Lithuania and contributions to NATO’s peacekeeping mission in Kosovo.

NATO needs a strong Germany both politically and militarily. Your contributions really make a difference for the Alliance and they help to keep the peace in Europe”, Mr Stoltenberg said.
