NATO is adapting to face new threats, while capitalising on opportunities created by innovation, new technologies, resilience, space and cyber. This is what Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg told NATO’s top military brass at the annual Commanders’ Conference, organised by Supreme Allied Commander Europe (SACEUR) General Tod D. Wolters.

The event, taking place in Mons, Belgium on 23 and 24 November 2021, brought together NATO’s joint and domain commanders for a strategic discussion on military adaptation.

In recent years, NATO has fundamentally shifted its efforts from out of area operations to collective defence. We have taken concrete steps to modernise our defence and deterrence architecture and dramatically improved our approach to military planning,” the Secretary General said.

"I count on your continued leadership and support to take this important work forward,” Mr. Stoltenberg added.

The Secretary General’s attendance was part of the regular political-military engagement at NATO. The Chair of the Military Committee, Admiral Rob Bauer, also took part in the Commanders’ Conference.
