NATO Deputy Secretary General visits Luxembourg

On Monday (04 October 2021), NATO’s Deputy Secretary General Mircea Geoană travelled to Luxembourg and met with Deputy Prime Minister/Minister of Defence François Bausch and Minister of Foreign Affairs Jean Asselborn.
He praised Luxembourg for its investment in defence capabilities as a key contribution to Alliance security. The Deputy Secretary General also commended Luxembourg on its pioneering role on green defence and climate change issues, and its recent contribution to the development of a new NATO system that will help enhance Alliance space situational awareness.
Mr. Geoană also visited the NATO Support and Procurement Agency (NSPA) and met with the General Manager, Ms. Stacy Cummings. He thanked the agency for managing Kabul airport throughout the evacuation of NATO personnel, contractors and families in August, and for the provision of essential support to NATO’s response to the COVID-19 pandemic. Mr. Geoană and Ms. Cummings discussed ongoing and future NATO capability and innovation programmes which, together, help increase NATO’s and Allies’ resilience to defence and security challenges.
Finally, the Deputy Secretary General visited the European Investment Bank and met with Vice President Kris Peeters. Together, they discussed potential opportunities for cooperation, in line with NATO’s 2030 agenda and in support to NATO-EU cooperation.
