Coronavirus response: NATO delivers disinfectant to Ukraine

Ukraine has received 30,000 litres of surface disinfectant liquid from NATO’s Pandemic Response Stockpile, in order to help the country respond to coronavirus infections. NATO’s Euro-Atlantic Disaster Response Coordination Centre and Latvia coordinated the donation, which arrived on Tuesday (3 August 2021), in response to a request by Ukraine for COVID-19 assistance. Latvia donated the surface disinfectant to the NATO stockpile and subsequently handed it over to the Ministry of Health, which transferred the donation to the Ukrainian Ministry of Defence.
Institutions that will benefit from the donation include Ukraine’s “Main Military Clinical Hospital” and the civil protection of the State Emergency Service of Ukraine. This latest delivery is part of the overall assistance Allies are providing to Ukraine to address the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic. Earlier this year, Ukraine received over 9,000 litres of disinfectant from NATO, as well as medical equipment including negative pressure chambers and ventilators. Ukraine is set to receive additional medical equipment in the coming weeks.
In 2020, NATO established a Pandemic Response Trust Fund that maintains a stockpile of medical equipment and supplies, based on in-kind contributions and targeted purchases, to be able to provide immediate relief to Allies or partners in need.
